Canadian Lynx, Yukon Territory

A Canadian lynx is seen in the Ogilvie Mountains (Yukon Territory, Canada) last winter. I followed fresh wolf tracks, north of Tombstone, before I found this lynx enjoying the sunset. I spent three hours with the feline, watching him resting, stretching, and hunting snowshoe hares in the snow.

This snowy owl was captured during a snowstorm. Unlike most owls, which are nocturnal, snowy owls are diurnal—they hunt and are active both day and night.

الخنفساء المدفعيه

موطن الخنفساء المدفعيه هو شرق الجزيرة العربية ودولة البحرين,وهى تسكن الكثبان الرملية في الصحاري واما عن اعتمادها فى الغذاء فهى تقوم بالتغذى على الحشرات الصغيرة, ويطلق العلماء عليها اسم ” بومباردييه بيتل ” , كما يعرفها العرب باسم ” الفساية ” , أو الفاسياء, واما عن سبب تسميتها بأسم الخنفساء المدفعيه يرجع الى وجود غدتين بهما مواد كميائية مختلفة, فعندما تشعر هذه الخنفساء بأي خطر تقوم بمزج المواد الكميائية معاً لتكون مادة أخرى ذات درجة حرارة عالية جداً يمكن أن تصل إلى درجة الغليان, وفى حاله تعرضها الى الخطر او الى هجوم من اى عدو لمحاولة إفتراسها أو إصابتها بضرر, تقوم بإطلاق سحابة من الدخان, وعندما تخرج هذا المادة لتتفاعل مع الأكسجين وترتفع درجة حرارتها لتصل أكثر من 100 درجة مئوية. وتعد هذه السحابة الدخانية بمثابة قذيفة مصوبة تجاه العدو, يمكن أن تصيبه بأذي يصل إلى القتل, فهذه الوسيلة التي تدافع بها عن نفسها خير بديل عن صغر حجمها وعدم قدرتها على الهروب .

This was a young man working at a pig feed store owned by my wife's uncle in Bien Hoa. He spends his days grinding and mixing feed, filling bags and loading trucks. Nothing made him more proud than to show me his pets, which included 11 guinea pigs and two birds. This bird would chase him everywhere and would aggressively attack any hand other than his owner's! He would repeatedly "kick" the bird into the air and the bird would then fly back to his foot until kicked again!
